What's Left On Detroit's Schedule?

The Detroit Red Wings have 9 games left in the regular season. The Question that GM Ken Holland and Coach Mike Babcock is does the team have enough left in the tank to ensure that it can hang on to a playoff place? Let's look at the remaining games from the point of view of a (slightly) biased Wings fan.

11/04/13 San Jose Sharks - Home.

The Wings are currently 1-1-0 against the Sharks and their only win was a shootout in February. The Sharks have made a lot of trades leading up the closure of the window last week and the Wings will need to pick apart any of the inconsistencies that come with unfamiliar players and lines playing together.

12/04/13 Chicago Blackhawks - Road

Despite Chicago's dominance of all things Western, the Wings have taken 2 points from their three games having lost 2 in overtime. Wings' record against the Hawks is currently 0-1-2 and the sole regulation loss was a 7-1 thumping on March 31st. There's a score to be settled but with 2 road games in as many days, it's going to be a tough one.

14/04/13 Nashville Predators - Road

Currently 1-0-1. Detroit have taken 3 points out of 4 from the Preds and have two games left. Both were reasonably high scoring affairs. Hopefully the Wings should be able to continue their current for and take some points here.

17/04/13 Calgary Flames - Road

Detroit has had its wings singed twice this season with the Flames beating the Wings 4-1 and the 5-2, however the Flames form has dropped recently (all the way to 28th in the league) so if Detroit can exploit that, hopefully there's some points to be had.

20/04/13 Vancouver Canucks - Road

The last of the Wing's 4 game road run sees the team take on the Canucks. Detroit has been a bit of a bogey team for the Canucks this season. The Wings have played them twice and scored 13 goals and conceded 5. This is promising stuff.

22/04/13 Phoenix Coyotes - Home

Wings are currently 1-1-0 against the Coyotes and are currently one place above them in the conference. There's very little difference in form between the two teams and the Wings will definitely be looking over their shoulders.

24/04/13 Los Angeles Kings - Home

The current Stanley Cup holders and Detroit have locked horns twice this season, each taking a win. The Kings are comfortable in 4th and are (barring a miracle) unlikely to challenge to for the Western Title so it's not impossible that the Wings could grab 2 points here.

25/04/13 Nashville Predators - Home

See above.

27/04/13 Dallas Stars - Road

Last game of the regular season sees the Wings journey to Dallas to play the Stars for the first time since January. Just like the Kings, it's 1 win each for these teams. Given their position in the conference, Dallas will still believe that they have a chance of making the playoffs so the Detroit faithful can expect a tough final game.
