Joe Sacco Fired!

By -
It's the season for shuffling and rebuilding, and the first thing on the Colorado Avalache's to-do list is to find a new coach. Joe Sacco was today fired. In his 4 seasons with the team, the Avs only made the playoffs once, arguably because of the work former coach Tony Granato did. More games have been lost than won and this season the team finished bottom of the conference. No news yet on who will replace Sacco.

Division Shake Up: What to Look For

By -
As Mike's previous two post pointed out, the NHL will be a very different place come the 2013-14 season with the Eastern and Western conference have undergone a dramatic re-alignment and now it has become far more simplied with the East sporting two separate divisions with the Atlantic and Metropolitan Divisions and the West also having two divisions with the Pacific and Central Division. With new leagues come new rivalrys are long gone are the days of the dull Southwestern Division and sadly Vancouver will not fight for a sixth straight Northwest Division. But what will the big match ups be? Let's take a look in more detail. But the clash that will have everyone talking will be when the Ottawa Senators...

Are Red Sox in Trouble?

So far this season, the Boston Red Sox are still looking a far cry from the 2013 World Series winning team they once were. Currently they sit bottom of the AL East Division with a record of 16-18 and a winning percentage .471 which puts them 4.5 games out 1st place. Might not sound terrible but when you consider that they were the heavy favourites to sweep this division, a heavy cloud comes over proceedings. On the MLB power rankings, the Red Sox currently rank 22nd overall! When you consider that this is below team such as the Miami Marlins and the Baltimore Orioles, then serious questions are raised. During the off season, the Red Sox appeared to have filled the gaps from last season by landing some of the most sought after free agents such as former Giants slugger, Pablo Sandoval , Hanley Ramirez and pitcher Justin Masterson . All seemed bright in the state of Massachusetts, but since then things haven't been so straight forward. Having a consistent starting pitcher seems to ...

Optimus Reim Comes Up Big For Leafs

By -
48 saves from James Reimer gave the Toronto Maple Leafs a much needed 2-1 shootout win over the Washington Capitals at the Air Canada Center last night. David Clarkson got the ball rolling when he deflected in Jake Gardiner's long shot after 10:08 of the second period. But Alexander Ovechkin then tied the game with 5 minutes remaining of the third to send matters to overtime! After an uneventful overtime, the game was pushed to a shootout where Grant Fehr gave the Caps an initial advantage when he deeked past Reimer but James Van Reimsdyk scored to level the shoot out. Niklas Backstrom then had his penalty shoot saved by the glove of Reimer which allow Joffrey Lupul to seal the win for the Leafs!
