Playoffs - Western Fixtures And Predictions

The regular season is over, all the games are played and the fixtures have now been completed. Here's my quick guide to the games in the Western:

 Minnesota Wild Vs Chicago Blackhawks

The Blackhawks are currently winning everything and are 2-0-1 against the Wild this season and there's no reason to believe this won't continue.

 Prediction - Blackhawks
Detroit Red Wings Vs Anaheim Ducks

 Detroit has won its last 4 games in a row and has performed well against the Ducks, only losing 1 in 3 games. The Ducks however have had a good season and finished second in the conference. Given the Wings' recent run of form and history against Anaheim, I think they've got the edge in this round.

Prediction - Red Wings
San Jose Sharks Vs Vancouver Canucks

 The Canucks have lost all three games against the Sharks this season, taking only 1 point from a possible 6. Overall the Sharks have taken less points in the league but the stats are really close. My heart says that Vancouver can step up and take this round but stats don't lie and I've giving this to the Sharks. Sorry Alex!

Prediction - Sharks
LA Kings Vs St. Louis Blues

 Current cup holders LA have done well this season but have dipped in form a but recently. However they've won all three meetings in regulation against the Blues and I predict this won't change.

The Sins Of The (Vancouver) Father

You can rarely judge a team on its pre-season performances, but it's fair to say that things at the Rogers Arena are looking shaky. The Canucks are currently 1/4 on their pre-season games, not a great start for new coach John Tortorella . Former coach  Alain Vigneault was fired after the team failed to progress past the the first round of the last two playoffs, along with two assistants. Since joining the NHL in 1970, the Canucks have failed to lift the Stanley Cup. It's a regular occurrence than coaches are fired long before the GMs who brought them in. You can't browse the internet without tripping over people questioning  Mike Gillis ' decision. Struggling Pittsburgh Penguins Fire Mike Johnston

The Pittsburgh Penguins have parted ways with coach Mike Johnston and assistant coach Gary Agnew. It was announced today that Johnston and Agnew would be given a whole load more time to spend with their families over the holiday period, after GM Jim Rutherford relieved them of their coaching duties in Pittsburgh, while dressed as Ebenezer Scrooge, I assume. The Penguins have lost six of their last 10 games, three of those in overtime and the team definitely isn't playing up to its potential. Evgeni Malkin is playing well, as is off-season addition Phil Kessel . But that's not enough, the team are ranked 26th on the power play and 27th on team shooting and goals per game. Times aren't good when the Columbus Blue Jackets are scoring more. Superstar Sidney Crosby's  season has been forgettable by his own, usually phenomenal standards, only six goals so far.
