Hart Trophy: Alternate Candidates

After Sidney Crosby's horrific jaw injury suffered a few weeks ago, it cut short what was so far a stunning season and has officially ruled him out for the remainder of the year. Also it prevents him from being able to add another Hart Trophy is his already impressive collection!

So with Sid the Kid out of the picture we must turn to another of the excellent candidates on show in the 2012/13 NHL Season. Ladels and Jellyspoons, here are your main contenders...

Steven Stamkos (Tampa Bay Lightning)
The closest overall to Crosby points wise with 49 and the top overall goal scorer with 26 goals, Tampa Bay's renowned centre has proved to be a bright spot in their otherwise horrible season. With a goal scoring touch like this, we can only shake our heads in disbelief that his team doesnt follow his good example. Would be nice to Stamkos rewarded for his continually excellent play.

Patrick Kane (Chicago Blackhawks)
This man is by far the most talented winger in the league and this year he skills have catapaulted the Blackhawks to the top of the Western Conference. Kane is a player who is older than his current years and his great display of discipline has made him stand out on the ice and his excellent points total reflects his commitment to the game- if he doesnt win this year, you can be sure that his name will be engraved soon!

Chris Kunitz (Pittsburgh Penguins)
Kunitz has proven a revelation on the right wing for the Penguins this season and so far is their leading scorer with over 20 goals. He superb play has made the Penguins one of the most feared offensive units in the 12/13 season and even in the absence of Crosby, Kunitz has held his own and in the face of the additions of Iginla and Jokinen, they will have to fight hard to claim this place from free scoring Kunitz!

Zach Parise (Minnesota Wild)
When Parise left NJ to join the club where his father, JP Parise made his name- many saw this a big gamble for such a talented young man! But true to form the talented centre has picked where he left off and has shone brightly for the Wild this season and his goal scoring talents have given them a big shot in the arm offensively and he will be a vital factor to the history of this franchise, who knows this could be year it all comes together.

Jonathan Toews (Chicago Blackhawks)
The always excellent Chicago skipper has more than repeated his excellent from of the Blackhawks 2010 cup winning season. This year along with Kane and Marion Hossa, his leadership has inspired the Blackhawks to a record 11 game winning streak and they have currently possess the leagues highest overall winning record! It is still amazing to think that Toews is still only 24 years old and if he's this good now- then lord help defenses in years to come!

Take your pick folks, but make sure we all think well because with all the talent on display here- this will not be an easy choice!
