Early Contenders For Hart Trophy

Tyler Seguin  Currently the beating heart of what is a patchy Dallas Stars team, Seguin currently sits second in the points standing with 59. He has a keen eye for goal and seems to score at will which if the Stars management can work out a plan promises great things. Seems inconceivable now that Boston traded him back in 2012 for Loui Eriksson- see how well that deal worked out boys! At only 23 years of age, Seguin is looking like he could be something remarkable! Jacob Voracek The biggest surprise of this season so far, Voracek has already scored an amazing 59 points, which nearly equals his entire season total of 62 points last season! The Philadelphia Flyers have endured a lacklustre season, from which the Czech winger has one of the few highlights. Many will say he have a fluke season and this will never again continue. They maybe right, but this season Voracek has deserved all the praise that has come his way and his name of the trophy would be fitting! Pekka Rinne...

Plekanec's Fine Passing Goal

Image
The Montreal Canadiens 3-1 win over the New York Rangers tonight at the Bell Centre was very impressive one and aided by the excellent saves of Carey Price in net, they continue to prove they are worth a shot at the cup this year! But it was this excellent play between Tomas Plekanec and Max Pacioretty in the first period that caught everyone's attention. You are unlikely to see a better example of passing play between teammates this season.

Does Josh Harding Deserve Vezina Trophy?

Josh Harding is having quite a season in net for Minnesota Wild and currently is top goalie in league stats wise with a GAA of 1.65 and a save percentage of .933. He may not have caught the eyes of hockey fans this season like Carey Price or Tuukka Rask but on merit alone, surely this man deserve a shot at the Vezina Trophy? So far this season in 29 games played, Harding has 18 wins including three shut out victories and has conceded only 46 goals- doesn't sound impressive if you like your stats and currently he only sits 22nd overall on the list of best goalies in the league- but when you consider what a journey this man has had to get here, your mind will swiftly be changed. Back on November 2012, Harding was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and because of his condition, many thought he would never again don the Wild jersey. But incredibly since then the man has played on and has delivered some sterling displays, particularly during their playoff lost to last season's ...

Alex's Sochi Predictions

Next month Russia will have a contagious case of Winter Olympic fever as the 2014 games roll into Sochi! While many if us will be routing for the returning Jamaican Bobsled Team or praying that Team GB wins any kind of medal! But to us hockey fans, there us only one event that matters! But which of the great teams on display will take home the gold medal? And more importantly, can the thrill level go beyond the epic Canada v USA final of Vancouver 2010? Here are my main contenders, Gold - Canada: The clear early favourites and my personal pick for the games! Their roster alone gives us goosebumps with the sheer level of quality and with offensive starlets Sidney Crosby, Jonathan Toes and Corey Perry among others on display- they will be a sure bet to rack up the goals and assists. But they have also defensive quality by the bucketful, and although goalie selection has raised a few eyebrows, Carey Price will be a great starter. On paper, this team will be hard to stop! Is Ryan Miller The Best Goalie In The NHL?

Image
User Actions   Following Zenon Konopka Verified account ‏ @ZenonKonopka If you don't think Ryan Miller is the Best Goalie in the NHL you haven't seen enough Sabres games #unreal Wow. That's one hell of a statement to make. One that warrants further investigation. Firstly I'll accept that I haven't seen every game that Miller has played, as a neutral, there's only so much hockey you can watch which still holding down a job. Sure he's a good goalie, but the best? In the same league as Marc-Andre Fleury, Mike Smith, Ben Bishop and Jonas Hiller, well that's some esteemed company. It's difficult to grade goalies, usually Save Percentage (Sv%) is the best reflection of how well a goalie is doing, but it doesn't always paint a true picture. Niklas Svedberg has the second best Sv% in the league (.943) but he's only played one game so far. That was against the Nashville Predators, not exactly prolific shooters. Fleury has t...

Goaltenders Dominate In Montreal

Tonight's Eastern Conference match up saw Alain Vigneault's New York Rangers make the trip to Montreal to take on the Canadiens at the Bell Center. Cam Talbot took net duties for the Rangers but it was the Habs' Carey Price who saw most of the action in the first period, fending off 15 shots while Talbot was only needed seven times. Both goalies were called into action early in the second period. With the Habs down a man due to Diaz's delay of game penalty, the Rangers upped the ante and Zuccarello forced Price to make a great stretch save. Gionta then made a shorthanded run but was denied by an instinctive glove save by Talbot. Price was beaten though when at the end of a Rangers 5 on 3 powerplay; Ryan Callahan was able to power a slap shot to give the visitors the lead. The New York Rangers have taken a while to adapt to Alain Vigneault's new leadership style. Couple this with starting the seaon on an extended road trip due to the MSG's refurbishment and i...

Carey Price Out For Rest of Quarters

Montreal has been dealt another cruel blow in their quest to advance from Eastern Conference quarter final against Ottawa as today regular Goalie Carey Price has been ruled out with a lower body injury which will mean that backup Peter Budaj will take his place in next for the remainder of the series. After losing Captain Brian Gionta already this week, the odds against them are steadily increasing as The Habs are already 3-1 down in this series and losing two stars players has trimed even more their slim chances. But Budaj is a solid backup goalie and has proven himself able to be called upon when needed so Habs fans can take some comfort in this fact.  Get well soon Carey from both of us here
