Chicago Clinch Division

The Chicago Blackhawks have had their playoff spot locked in for some days now but after their overtime win over the Detroit Red Wings, the Central Division now belongs to the Hawks.

There was a sweet irony to last night's game. It was the last time the Hawks and Wings would ever* meet as divisional rivals. With the new alignment coming into effect next season, it's the end of one of the longest running rivalries in hockey. The North American neighbours have played over 700 games against each other and with the new changes, this will drop from 6, to 2 per season. Still, time for a new era and what-not.

Despite Chicago's dominance of all things Central, the Wings have had relative success against this team, taking 3 points from a possible 8. I did say relative! And despite a 7-1 education, the other three games have all been very close with just the aforementioned walkover being decided in regulation time.

The Red Wings hold onto 8th place in the conference after Phoenix also lost last night.
