High Scoring Affair Sees Islanders Equalise In Series

The New York Islanders haven't won a Stanley Cup since 1983 and when they finished 8th in the conference, I doubt any Isles fan was happy about being drawn against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Expecting a quick end to their playoff campaign. I know I did.

But those plucky Islanders are determined to cost me money (I bet on the Pens winning the series) and staged a mighty comeback to draw the series again.

The Islanders netted 6 times with Brian Strait, Mark Streit, Kyle Okposo, John Tavares and Casey Cizikas all lighting the lamp. 3 of the goals came in the last 16 minutes of the game.

James Neal, Evgeni Malkin, Brandon Sutter and Pascal Dupuis all scored for the Penguins.

Playmaker Sidney Crosby managed a single assist for his team.

Is this a resurgence from the 4 time cup winning Islanders? Can the Pens' new high profile trades make the difference and fight back? Watch this space.

Erat Wants Out Of Washington

It seems that Washington's Czech fourth-liner isn't happy and wants out of the nation's capital. A few years ago Erat was the Nashville Predator's starting right winger, terrorising defences across the length and breadth of the NHL. But those days are gone, Erat was traded to the Washington Capitals in the 2013 trade deadline after waiving his no-trade clause and asking to move. It seems though that the grass is not always greener and Erat revealed to the Czech press (and subsequently the local press) that he's unhappy and wants to move on. "It's time for me to move on." He said. The Caps' GM; George McPhee has accepted that after averaging just 13 minutes ice time per game and totalling six points for the season, it's probably time to look elsewhere.

Are Red Sox in Trouble?

So far this season, the Boston Red Sox are still looking a far cry from the 2013 World Series winning team they once were. Currently they sit bottom of the AL East Division with a record of 16-18 and a winning percentage .471 which puts them 4.5 games out 1st place. Might not sound terrible but when you consider that they were the heavy favourites to sweep this division, a heavy cloud comes over proceedings. On the MLB power rankings, the Red Sox currently rank 22nd overall! When you consider that this is below team such as the Miami Marlins and the Baltimore Orioles, then serious questions are raised.
