Five Star Rangers Blitz Capitals

The New York Rangers set up a semi final appearence with a dominant 5-0 victory over the Washington Capital in game 7 at the Verizon center! This series had been neck and neck all the way through and going into the game it was anyone's guess which way the tide would turn?

Aron Asham got the party started for the Rangers in the 1st period and the second period followed suit as Taylor Pyatt and Michael Del Zotto scored early on to put New York ahead by three clear goals! The third period was a similar affair as the Rangers impressive offensive put the Caps defense to the sword with further goals by Ryan Callahan and Mats Zuccarello.

Henrik Lundqvist was once again the hero with 35 saves to firmly shut out Ovechkin and co as the Rangers spoiled the homecoming party for Washington! This series has been one of the most unpredictable of the lot and has continued the spirit of exciting play we have been priviledged to watch.

It is a shame that the Capitals will not be going forward as their offense has been one of the most free scoring all season and once again Alex Ovechkin will have to wait for his shot at glory. But the Rangers have merited their series win and their clash against the Bruins in the Eastern Conference Semi-Final will be equally stimulating!

You can rarely judge a team on its pre-season performances, but it's fair to say that things at the Rogers Arena are looking shaky. The Canucks are currently 1/4 on their pre-season games, not a great start for new coach John Tortorella . Former coach  Alain Vigneault was fired after the team failed to progress past the the first round of the last two playoffs, along with two assistants. Since joining the NHL in 1970, the Canucks have failed to lift the Stanley Cup. It's a regular occurrence than coaches are fired long before the GMs who brought them in. You can't browse the internet without tripping over people questioning  Mike Gillis ' decision. Struggling Pittsburgh Penguins Fire Mike Johnston

The Pittsburgh Penguins have parted ways with coach Mike Johnston and assistant coach Gary Agnew. It was announced today that Johnston and Agnew would be given a whole load more time to spend with their families over the holiday period, after GM Jim Rutherford relieved them of their coaching duties in Pittsburgh, while dressed as Ebenezer Scrooge, I assume. The Penguins have lost six of their last 10 games, three of those in overtime and the team definitely isn't playing up to its potential. Evgeni Malkin is playing well, as is off-season addition Phil Kessel . But that's not enough, the team are ranked 26th on the power play and 27th on team shooting and goals per game.
