Lessons Learned From Opening Premier League Weekend

Chelsea Are Vulnerable

Following their 2-2 draw with Swansea, Chelsea may have been unlucky following the sending of goalie Thibaut Courtois, but still some key holes were exposed that manager Jose Mourinho will need to be wary of. Still possessing one of the best attacking forces in world football, Chelsea will need to repeat their fine performance at the back of last season. However there was a distinct lack of spark in this fixture from the reign champions. Having failed to attract a big name in the off-season, this season could be an interesting one at Stamford Bridge.

Crystal Palace Could Be Contenders

Having survived again last season, Crystal Palace manager, Alan Pardew has shown his intent to not only keep his team in the league but to go one better too. A fine 3-1 win over returning new boys Norwich will help his cause. Debutant Yohan Cabaye scored following his move for PSG and having quality like this in midfield is a sign of ambition at Selhurst Park. Whether this is a false dawn or not no one knows, but you can be sure Palace will looking to make a mark.

Leicester Could Be Interesting Under Ranieri

The midlands side were the form team at the tail end of last season. Under new boss Claudio Ranieri they look like a new side with a sharper attacking focus. An impressive 4-2 win over Sunderland was the way to kick start the season. Despite losing key personnel such as Nigel Pearson and Cambiasso, Leicester City seemed to have an eye for goal. Three goals in the first 30 minutes made them look like a different side compared to the fortunate sons of last season. With an experienced boss like Ranieri in tow, things could be a lot different.

Man United's Offense Will Take Time

Louis Van Gaal spent big this summer to overhaul Manchester United in a majority of areas. During their disappointing 1-0 win over Spurs, this side looked anything but ready to challenge for league glory. United didn't have a shot on target until 65 minutes in which despite having Memphis Depay and Morgan Schneiderlin playing was a worrying sign. Not to mention a Spurs own-goal from Walker would prove the difference. In the coming months I have no doubt that this side will gel nicely. United fans should be patient though because they cannot kept a new team to be instantly brilliant.

Arsenal Still Toy With Fans Hearts

Today another crushing story reared its ugly head, Arsenal losing on opening day! A 2-0 loss today to West Ham only days are winning the Community Shield will provide some unhappy faces. Petr Cech made his debut in goal today, but a mistake misjudging a free-kick led to the opener. The Gunners are a team with attacking power in droves. At the back it is not always the same and at times this defense looks all at sea. Slaven Bilic will no doubt be happy that his side has triumphed, Arsene Wenger will need to be back to the drawing board.
