Gerrard Makes An Anfield Legend... In Just 48 Seconds

Today after replacing Adam Lallana at half time in Liverpool's crucial 2-1 loss to Man United at Anfield today, Reds legend, Steven Gerrard's final appearance in this grudge match was memorable for all the wrong reasons. No sooner had he entered the fray, he found himself red carded only 48 seconds later for a stamp on United midfielder, Ander Herrera! This will be one event that both sets of fans will remember for entirely different reasons.

Former Liverpool team mate, Jamie Carragher has already referred to this as a 'moment of madness', Gerrard is due to move to LA Galaxy for next season, which is likely to be the last of his career. An apology has already been issued by Gerrard, but isn't likely to make fans happy after dropping needed points against a bitter rival in their quest for Europe!

I can appreciate the frustration Gerrard must be feeling, particularly as he has been a key cog in the Reds machine over the years. Now with game time limited and him regularly been left out of the line up, even his frustrations were going to boil over. But a like him has to exercise caution in these kind of games because in an instant, even the most loyals fan will turn! With this tackle though, he can have no complaints- by going in studs up into a challenge, there was only one card that was going to be shown!

(Please Note: This is in fact Gerrard's second time being sent off in this fixture and the fourth of his career)

Guest of Honour Pele was introduced at half time- even he lasted longer on the pitch than Stevie G!
