Canucks Win 9 Goal Thriller Over Isles

The Vancover Canucks came out smiling from the epic battle waged at the Nassau Coliseum last night as they claimed a 5-4 win over the New York Islanders- they provides the perfect bounce back after being beaten by Columbus on Saturday.

From the very get go this game was action packed and in the first period the Islanders took an early advantage when rookie Brock Nelson scored his first NHL goal after less than 02.26 played and Matt Moulson then pushed them further in front as he scored a rebound off Roberto Luongo for a powerplay goal after 4.41. But Vancouver were not going down without a fight and only 16 seconds later, Ryan Kesler scored a rebound off Evgeni Narbarkov to put the Canucks back in contention. But incredibly after just 9 minutes played we were given a tie game when Daniel Sedin scored to bring things to 2-2!

Second period started similar to the first when Matt Moulson scored his second again off the powerplay after 4.48 of the period. Zack Kassian had a goal waived off after 8 minutes when it was judged he had knocked the puck out of Nabokov's hands, but they didnt have to wait long for the tying goal as Henrik Sedin made use of a 2 on 1 with brother Daniel to slot the puck home and level scores. But with only 18 seconds on the clock, Chris Higgins scored to finally put Vancouver in front 4-3!

On 18.42 of the third period, the Islanders elected to pull Nabokov and go for the extra skater and it was a gamble that paid off because Frans Nielsen scored a rebound to push affairs to overtime. But it was to be a very short overtime period as after only 2.16 played, Brad Richardson scored to give the Canucks a 5-4 win and ensured every fan got their money's worth!

Canucks coach John Tortorella summed this game up perfectly with his post game comment "It was ugly... but we got the win!"
