DeKeyser To Finish Playoffs At Griffins

The Detroit Red Wings' season may be over but rookie defenseman Danny DeKeyser still has some hockey to play before he gets a summer holiday.

The Red Wings' affiliate Grand Rapids Griffins are still in the AHL playoffs and have gone one better than their big-league cousins by making it to the conference final.

The Griffins take on the Oklahoma City Barons and are currently 2-1 up in the series.

DeKeyser missed most of Detroit's playoff campaign through a hand injury but hopes to be back soon.

July 4th seems to been a one with plenty of fireworks in Massachussets as today it was announced that Tyler Seguin, the Boston Bruins number 2 pick of 2010 has been traded along with Rich Peverley and defensemen Ryan Button have been traded to the Dallas Stars for forward Loui Eriksson and three prospects Joseph Morrow , Reilly Smith and Matt Fraser . Though on reflection for a second overall pick his career has begun at a rather slow pace and during the playoffs he hit the back of the net only once, but recorded the second highest shot total with 70 shots! This Week In Sport

Here's some stories and thoughts from the world of sport this week. Baseball The San Francisco Giants only went and won the World Series for the third time in five years. Congratulations San Francisco. Hockey Detroit Red Wings legend and Hall of Famer Gordie Howe suffered a significant stroke on Sunday while staying with his daughter in Texas. The 86 year old is said to be recovering but has a tough journey ahead. Mr Hockey and his family are definitely in our thoughts. The Carolina Hurricanes continue to suck harder than anyone expected. The 2006 Stanley Cup champions are 0-6-2 for the season so far. Luckily for the 'Canes (and fans hoping to cash in on that free BoBerry biscuit), the team has a few games against division rivals Columbus soon, another team that seems happy to give points away. End of Season Report Card: Buffalo Sabres

It's time to grade the NHL teams' overall performance for 2014-15. The grades range from A* to E-. The Buffalo Sabres are a team locked in perpetual rebuild. Like a child with a tub of Lego, the team continues to go through change after change both on the ice and in the front office. 2014-15 was no different as it was announced yesterday that former Penguins coach Dan Bylsma was to take over at the First Niagara centre. The glory days, and I use that term lightly, of the late 90s are but a distant memory. 2014-15 started badly for the team who won only two of their 11 games in October. November and December fared slightly better, including a 6-2 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs.  January was horrific for the Sabres who won none of their 12 games who were now becoming the NHL's whipping boys. The heaviest defeat was at the Minnesota Wild who put seven past the Sabres for no reply. Bet that was an awkward journey back to Buffalo. The rest of the regular season...
