World Series Even After 4 Games

Last night, the San Francisco Giants look advantage of a minor implode by the Kansas City Royals to level the scores of the 2014 World Series at 2 games a piece after 4 games played! This match up between Missouri and California might not have been predicted by many fans at the beginning of the post season, but so far both are making a good show of things.

After being humiliated in game one by the Giants, the Royals' recovery has been nothing short of a masterstroke! Watching starting pitcher James Shields stumble his way through 4 very nervy innings while Giants pitcher Madison Bumgarner held Kansas to only 4 hits in a one sided 7-1 victory made the air go out of Kauffman stadium! Also aided by a Hunter Pence home run, things were already looking bleak and the Royals impressive 8-0 post season record lay in ruins.

Game 2 brought about a dramatic change and the Royals looked more fired up and ready to counter the Giants threat. After being held 1-1 in the opening innings, Omar Infante's home run opened the flood gates and the Royals began to take control despite Brandon Belt and Pablo Sandoval tying the scores off hitting doubles. But after the sixth inning scoring five runs to bring the score to 7-2, which resulted in Giants pitcher Jake Peavy being removed from play! The score would remain the same for the remainder of the game. The fire in Missouri had been reignited and the Royals were looking their old dangerous selves again.

In the third game, their good form would continue, but things would be far from one sided in this fixture at AT&T Park in SF! This time with Jeremy Guthrie on the pitchers mound, the Royals took an early lead when after hitting a double to lead off, Alcides Escobar came around the score the opening run in the first inning! The score would remain a single run one until the sixth inning when both teams came alive. Escobar scored off an Alex Gordon double then after standing through 11 different pitches from Giants pitcher Javier Lopez, Eric Hosmer hit the game deciding RBI when his single allowed Gordon to score. The Giants rallied briefly and cut the score to a 3-2 margin. But after Greg Holland impressively notched up his record tying 7th save of the post season, the Royals suddenly found themselves ahead in this series! Also another noteworthy achievement came from Royals relief pitcher Brandon Finnegan who became the first pitcher to play both the World Series and the College World Series in the same year.

After leading 4-2 after 4 inning of Game 4, the Royals fell apart during the next three innings and eventually allowed the Giants to take an 11-4 win to bring the scores to 2-2 and set us up for a very unpredictable finish. This may not have been the expected match up, but no one can complain about the entertainment value on show!
