Conference Final Predictions

This season's Stanley Cup playoffs have been one of the best and most unpredictable of years gone by, the Boston Bruins; almost everyone's favourite for the cup have been dumped out by the Habs. The Rangers, riding high under the stewardship of Alain Vigneault have put out the Pittsburgh Penguins. Last night also saw another sting in the tail, as the LA Kings put an end to an impressive Anaheim Ducks with a 6-2 win at the Honda Center!

We've now arrived at the conference finals. During the regular season you never would have predicted these line ups. But who will triumph here?

Western Conference

Chicago Blackhawks v LA Kings

The Blackhawks have done well to salvage some pride after an indifferent regular season and players such as Jonathan Toews, Marion Hossa and Brent Seabrook have impressed during this time. I have no doubts they will fight to the bitter end to bring the cup by to Illinois for a second year running. They are not as dominant as last season, but they are still one of the form teams in this playoffs.

LA once again is the Cinderella team and they have shown sheer determination, such as coming back from a three game deficit against San Jose in the first round, and their excellent back and forth series win against the Ducks. Marion Gaborik's arrival has been one of the key elements in this run and along with Jeff Carter and Anze Kopitar, this offense can do damage! It is because of this spirit that I feel that LA has the edge over their rivals, but this series will be far from straight forward.

Prediction: LA Kings

Eastern Conference

Montreal Canadiens v New York Rangers

Who would have predicted that against heavyweight opponents Boston and New York, that either team would get this far? Both have been highlights of the playoffs and Montreal's amazing 7 game series against the Bruins will definitely go down as upset of the year! The Habs have the hopes of all of Canada riding on their shoulders as they strive to end the nation's 21 year wait for a cup win and players such as Max Pacioretty, Lars Eller and PK Subban (Mike's favourite guy (Hey! He's my choice for Conn Smythe this season - Ed)) have been key players for their quest. Meanwhile, the Rangers have been equally impressive with their series wins over the Penguins and the Flyers. The trade for Martin St Louis was risky, but the 38 year old has proven key to their success and along with Brad Richards and Derek Brassard, they have helped transform New York's Season.

Although I have been a guest of the MSG twice and I hope the Rangers do well, I have to go with Montreal for this one as emotion will be riding high!

Prediction: Montreal Canadiens

Here's to a great end of playoffs Hockey fans!
