Top 5 Goalies of 2012/13 so far
By Alex Watson
Craig Anderson (Ottawa
Senators)
Since being traded to Ottawa in 2010, Craig Anderson has
proven himself to be mister consistent and this season has been no exception
and as it stands Anderson currently has the highest save percentage and
currently has a GAA average of 1.49. His great goaltending has put him in line
for a potential Hart Trophy and has also contributed to the Senators ever
improving form and they are now firmly in line for a place off spot.
Pekka Rinne (Nashville
Predators)
Nashville’s form so far this season has been very stop-
start, but the one thing that hasn’t been is the goaltending of Finland’s Pekka
Rinne who currently has already registered 5 shut out victories alone this
season and has prove a bright spot in the Predators season and if his form
continues, they could prove to be the wildcard of the playoff race!
Nikolas Backstrom (Minnesota
Wild)
The Wild’s fortunes are ever improving this season due to
some smart acquisitions off the ice. But this season their ever present goalie
Backstrom has firmly propelled them into the limelight and as it stands he is
currently the most winning goal tender of the 2012/13 with 16 wins. Backstrom
has been one of the key factors of Minnesota in seasons gone by and this season
has been proof that this franchise is turning around and after look set to
appear in the play offs for the first time in 4 years!
Corey Crawford (Chicago
Blackhawks)
Chicago this season has been the talk of the town with their
11 game un-beaten streak, but that streak has been aided greatly by the form of
Corey Crawford in net. The man has had to wait for his shot since being draft
in the 2nd round in 2003, but since being made number one last season,
the Quebec native has grabbed the opportunity with both hands and has turned
many heads as a result and his skills have made the Blackhawks into a team that
is deadly at the back and front lines.
Tuukka Rask (Boston
Bruins)
Since taking over the start spot from Bruins veteran Tim
Thomas this year, former back up Rask has proven himself a worthy successor and
his impressive stats sit firmly in the league’s top 5! After a botched followed
up to their Cup glory last year he has helped stabilize the Bruins and aided by
the defence of Captain Zheno Chara, Rask has kept the Bruins in the
hunt for further Stanley cup glory and seems certain to keep net for many
season to come.
