Best NHL Free Agents Remaining
As the the free agency period drags on, there are still some note worthy names who have yet to find a new home. Here are the pick of the bunch who still remain un-signed.
Cody Franson
The 27 year old blue-liner has been the source of much speculation this summer, but as yet no offer has been made. Last season splitting his time between Toronto and Nashville, his form declined after being traded in February. Franson has a good shot and has proven to be a solid D-Man in years gone by. The main problem is the $3.3 million cap hit that his signing would bring. Still, I believe this man is one name that shouldn't be left floundering in free agency for this long.
Alexander Semin
After having the remaining $7 million bought out of his contract after a poor season for Carolina, Semin is search for a new dawn. Although he has proven to be a solid pro, his point production has slowed over the years after leaving Washington. However, at only 31 years old, Semin still has plenty to prove in Hockey. His high price though may be an obstacle teams need to face, but if they need a good third or fourth line anchor, then look right here.
Mike Santorelli
Santorelli had a bright start to his season while for Toronto last year, but ran out of fuel when he was traded to Nashville. Noted for his good ability at face-offs, the 29 year old BC native is one option teams should look at. Primarily known for his work on the lower lines, Santorelli is a player that can normally fit in anywhere and with only a $1.5 million cap hit, he is worth considering.
Christian Erhoff
Experienced down the years, last season in Pittsburgh the German defenseman was limited to only 49 games due to injury. Although he did average 21:45 on ice time with 14 points, also his experience in the playoffs is one factor that will aid his cause. Erhoff may be pushing tin at 33 years old and his potential $4 million cap hit might be a stumbling block. If teams should want experience though, this man is a viable option.
