Cleary To Stay At Detroit!
Edit! Ignore everything I said about Cleary leaving. He's agreed a new one year deal at Detroit worth £1.75 million. Awesome.
People get their hockey news from lots of different places, I have three main sources, NHL.com, TSN and the Alex Watson Alert System (AWAS). The AWAS is great. I get regular messages about the goings on in the NHL. Very useful when for when work is hectic and there's no time to peruse my usual haunts.

Today the AWAS brought sad news. After wearing red for 8 years, Daniel Cleary is off to join the Philadelphia Flyers' training camp. In a deal that'll be made official at the end of the month, Cleary has accepted three years, earning 2.75 mill each season.
Now I'm glad that Cleary has been offered a skate, he's a great guy with a lot to offer. It's just a shame that after giving eight years to Detroit, the Red Wings couldn't find him a space. As a Wings fan, I've got a lot of respect for Cleary, the 34 year old Canadian has been a quiet trooper for the Wings.
All teams have their showboaters, those who dazzle with the skill and love the spotlight. Then there's other kind. The skater who just gets on with his job, quietly and confidently performing. Cleary falls into the second category. I never once saw him put in a bad shift.
It's important to note that Cleary is not yet a Flyer. There's currently no space in the Flyers' salary cap, however come the end of the month, the long term injured can be moved onto the IR list, freeing up space for the Stanley Cup winner.
As much as I'll him, I'm glad that he (potentially) has a team to ply his very good trade at next season.
