Finnish Commentator Goes Wild as TUTO score

Image
During Saturday’s game between TUTO and KooKoo in Finland’s second division Mestis league. TUTO goalie Kaapo Kahkonen fired a shot into KooKoo’s unguarded net in the closing seconds. What followed is destined to live in infamy as the colourful commentator got a little too caught up in the moment! Close your eyes and you can almost see him leaping up and down! Kahkonen is a Minnesota Wild prospect, wonder if this commentator will come as part of the package?

Top Contenders For New IndyCar Season

Tomorrow, the 2015 Verizon Indycar Series season will get underway in sunny Florida as the Firestone Grand Prix of St Petersburg counts down to the green flag. Will Power (Team Penske) Last year's Indycar champion is once again favourite to be among the top contenders in 2015. After being the bridesmaid three times previously, 2014 at long last deservedly promoted Power to the ring of champions. Once more his pacey Penske car is looking dangerous- a fact confirmed today as Power took the pole for tomorrows race and set the track record in the process! After years of being the nearly man, the Australian is taking his chance with both hands! Ryan Hunter-Reay (Andretti Autosport) After a championship in 2012 and an Indy 500 win last season, Ryan Hunter-Reay can never be counted out. After two uneven seasons in 2013 & 2014 where both times he not only failed to defend his title, but finished out the top 5, Hunter-Reay will be dying to set the record straight again. His A

Mike Trout's Highlight Reel Catch

If LA Angels fans needed yet another reason to get excited for next season, then check out this 1st inning catch by Mike Trout ! Some have already predicted this guy for the Hall of Fame in future- seems they are not wrong! Although the Angels lost 5-4 to the Dodgers, next season could well be an interesting one in Anaheim! Gerrard Makes An Anfield Legend... In Just 48 Seconds

Image
Today after replacing Adam Lallana at half time in Liverpool 's crucial 2-1 loss to Man United at Anfield today, Reds legend, Steven Gerrard' s final appearance in this grudge match was memorable for all the wrong reasons. No sooner had he entered the fray, he found himself red carded only 48 seconds later for a stamp on United midfielder, Ander Herrera ! This will be one event that both sets of fans will remember for entirely different reasons. Former Liverpool team mate, Jamie Carragher has already referred to this as a 'moment of madness', Gerrard is due to move to LA Galaxy for next season, which is likely to be the last of his career. An apology has already been issued by Gerrard, but isn't likely to make fans happy after dropping needed points against a bitter rival in their quest for Europe! I can appreciate the frustration Gerrard must be feeling, particularly as he has been a key cog in the Reds machine over the years. Now with game time limited an

Should League Come Down Harder On Diving?

Previously we debated their James Neal being fined for diving would deter other NHL players from doing the same? Well yesterday Montreal Canadiens defenseman, P.K Subban has been fined $3000 US from the league after being caught diving for the third time! The fine itself probably amounts to little more than the change in Subbans back pocket, but it does raise some serious questions about the Leagues disciplinary procedures. The incident itself occurred on March 12 after the Habs 5-2 to Ottawa. What strikes me as bizarre in this whole situation is firstly, why on earth would Subban- one of the leagues most feat blue liners be falling to earth freely? And also why the league hasn't sent a harder message that this won't be tolerated? Subban has been a master at winning penalty calls for Montreal in the last few seasons, but he seems to also equally skilled at giving them away. This whole affair is going to nothing for the love/hate image that fans outside Quebec hold for him.

Does Daniel Norris Deserve a Spot on Rotation?

When Marcus Stroman was ruled out for the entire season after tearing his ACL, you could hear the cries of anguish echoing around the Toronto area. After a stellar rookie season, Stroman had appeared due for a break through year and was set to solidify his standing as the new Toronto Blue Jays star pitcher. But from out of nothing, there now appears to be an unlikely new solution that could well turn a few heads at the Rogers Centre this year! Ever heard of Daniel Norris ? Well if you are from outside of Toronto probably not, but during spring training this year the 21 year old Tennessee native made headlines for his living arrangements . Rare is it that you see a guy so fond of not only the outdoors, but his VW van! Listed as the third best LHP prospect by MLB this year, Norris made his debut last September against the Boston Red Sox where he struck out David Ortiz! Making his first start soon after, he pitched only 6 2/3 innings and posted a 5.40 ERA, along with 4 strikeouts, and

Eberle's Between The Legs Dish

Image
In the Edmonton Oilers , 5-4 defeat last night away to Columbus- there was a one moment of impressive trickery from Jordan Eberle ! With the score tied at 3-3 in the beginning of the third period, Eberle impressively created a no look pass between the legs to set up Nail Yakupov to brief push the Oilers in front. I don't know which was a bigger shock, something creative from Edmonton or Yakupov remembering where the goal was? Take a look below

Does A-Rod Deserve a Second Chance?

Watching him at bat during Spring Training for the New York Yankees in Tampa, Florida, it appears that the Alex Rodriguez come back trail is now in effect. It has been 18 months since we last saw A-Rod grace the majors due to his lengthy 211 game ban for his involvement in the Biogenesis Scandal . Public opinion has been split about whether this guy deserves another shot at glory, particularly as he was caught publicly trying to prolong his career by illegal means. But love or hate the guy, baseball has felt slightly less exciting without this guy around. Rodriguez career stats on the surface read like a dream and would probably have seen him grace the hall of fame automatically. A .299 batting average, 654 home runs, 2.939 hits and an incredible 1,919 RBI's rival his long time friend Derek Jeter's stats. But the one element to his play that caused friction among baseball fans is his lackluster ability during the playoffs. A-Rod won a World Series in 2009 with New York, but

M-Sport raise the TiTänak

Image
The World Rally Championship claims to be 'the world's toughest motorsport' and yesterday, the Rally Guanajuanto Mexico certainly made good on that claim, as M-SPORT Driver Ott Tänak and his co-driver Raigo Molder found out: Genuinely terrifying stuff. As seen in the video Tänak and Molder both escaped unharmed, Molder even managed to rescue his pacenotes. Estonians, it seems, are made of sterner stuff, and the pair were determined to continue the rally. This is where the situation becomes more unbelievable: Having recovered the soggy Ford Fiesta from its 10 hour swim at the bottom of a Mexican reservoir, the M-SPORT mechanics were able replace all of the ruined parts, including the knackered suspension which caused the crash in the first place... ...in three hours. To put that in perspective, when my alternator cable was damaged, it took the shop nine days to fix it. Full story here.

On This Day In Hockey History

March 6 1997: While Playing for the Phoenix Coyotes, Mike Gartner scored his 30th goal of the season- it was the 17th time he had achieved this feat. Gartner was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2001.

Best Moves of Trade Deadline

Well today's NHL Trade Deadline didn't quite prove to be the Maple Leafs dominated affair that many expected. Princess Dion Phaneuf, Jonathan Bernier and Phil Kessel still remaining in Ontario (at least for now) so it appears Leafs fans will have to wait until summer time for any big changes. But there were still some interesting moves that could well shake up the mix come play off time. Keith Yandle ( Arizona Coyotes to New York Rangers ) At long last Keith Yandle is no longer playing desert hockey and moving to the Big Apple is the shot in the arm his career needs. A long time star of a continually dying franchise, Yandle has shown so much promise for nothing. The Rangers are keen to end their cup drought and grabbing a great blue liner like Yandle is key to that success. John Moore and Anthony Duclar have made the move across in place of this man- which is pretty fair quality for the Rangers to be giving back. We will see if this move pays off come play off time. Ant

On This Day in Hockey History

March 2nd 1918: Joe Malone of the Toronto Arenas becomes the first NHL scoring leader. He had netted 44 goals in 22 games in the first NHL season. His record would stand until 1944-45 when 50 goals were scored by Maurice "The Rocket" Richard. 1929: George Hainsworth (Montreal Canadiens) records his 20th shutout of the season. He  would end the season with a total of 22. 1929:  The Chicago Blackhawks were shut out for the eighth consecutive game.  1966: While playing for the Chicago Blackhawks, Bobby Hull becomes the first NHL player to score 50 goals in two seasons. 1969: Phil Esposito becomes the first player in the NHL to score 100 points in a single season.
